🌞 A Day in the Life of Reception 🌞
Welcome to Reception! Our days are full of fun, learning, and growing together. Here's what a typical day looks like for our wonderful 4-5 year olds.
🕣 8:30am – Calm Start
We begin our day with a gentle activity to help us settle in.
✍️ Often, we practise writing our names, but sometimes we enjoy dough disco 💃 or a fine motor challenge like threading or cutting ✂️.

📋 8:45am – Register & Class Chat
We take the register and have a lovely chat as a class usually about what’s for lunch! 🍽️
It’s a great time to share thoughts and build our speaking and listening skills.

🤸 9:05am – Movement Break
Time to get our wiggles out!
We stretch, jump, and dance to wake up our bodies and minds.

🔤 9:15am – Phonics
We dive into our daily phonics session, learning new sounds and practising blending and segmenting. You can learn more about our Phonics Scheme here.
We use songs, games, and practical resources to make learning fun! We follow this with another movement break.

🍎 10:00am – Snack Time
We enjoy a healthy snack and a drink while chatting with our friends.
It’s a calm moment to refuel before more learning.

🧠 10:15am – Adult-Led Activity
After snack, we take part in a short adult-led activity linked to our current topic.
This helps us build new knowledge and practise key skills.

🏠 10:30am – Indoor Free Flow
Children explore a range of activities indoors and outdoors.
We always choose 4 or 5 activities together as a class to set out inside, and we practise being responsible by tidying one thing before getting out another.
There are adult-led tasks to complete, but lots of opportunities to follow our own interests too!

Outside we love the mud kitchen, climbing frame, digging in the mud pit or sandpit, and building in the construction area.
Adults also set up exciting outdoor activities to explore.
🌦️ We go out in all weathers, so wellies and waterproofs are essential!

🕦 11:30am – Tidy Up & Get Ready for Lunch
We work together to tidy up then wash our hands, ready for lunch.

🕛 11:45am–1:00pm – Lunchtime & Free Play
We enjoy a hot meal or packed lunch with our friends in the school hall.
After eating, we have time to play and relax before the afternoon begins.

🕐 1:00pm – Register & Maths
We come back inside, take the register, and begin our Maths session.
We follow Mastering Number and love using practical resources to explore number concepts.

🧃 1:30pm – Free Flow (Indoor & Outdoor)
We continue our learning through play with more indoor and outdoor free flow.
Adults work with us on activities, and we also get to choose our own learning.

🕝 2:30pm – Tidy Up & Home Time Prep
We tidy up together and get ready for home.
We might share a story or sing a song before we go.
