Academisation Update

We wanted to provide you with a brief update regarding our academisation plans.

We are now in the final stages of completing the application to the Department for Education (DfE). This is being finalised by the Governing Body in partnership with MTOAT.

Once the application is submitted, the DfE will review it. There is no fixed timeframe for this stage, but we are hopeful that we will receive permission to proceed in the early part of the Autumn term.

From that point, the process takes a minimum of 16 weeks. This is when more detailed work takes place, including thorough checks and due diligence to ensure everything is in place for a successful transition.

In the meantime, we continue to work closely with MTOAT and Wallingford Secondary School, and have found their support invaluable as we plan for the future.

If all progresses as planned, we are currently anticipating a potential conversion date in late Spring 2027.

We will, of course, keep you fully informed as we move through each stage of the process.

School Business Manager Appointment

This week, we were pleased to interview a strong field of candidates for the role of School Business Manager.

We are delighted to announce that Josie Brettell has been appointed to the position. Josie is already a valued member of our school community as both a parent and Teaching Assistant, and we are thrilled that she will be stepping into this new role. Throughout the process, she impressed us with her dedication, professionalism, and strong commitment to our school values of Care, Grow, Persevere and Shine. In particular, her focus on putting children first was clear at every stage.

Josie takes on this role following the excellent work of Donna, who has worked tirelessly over the past three years and made a tremendous contribution to the school. Her impact will be felt for years to come, and we are very grateful for all she has done.

As part of this appointment, the governing body is aware that Angus Brettell, our Co Chair of Governors, is a family member of Josie. Appropriate measures are in place to ensure that this is managed transparently and in line with governance guidance.

We are sure you will join us in congratulating Josie on her appointment.

Parking Reminder – Newnham Green

We have been asked to share a reminder from our waste collection contractor, Biffa, who has experienced some difficulty accessing parts of Newnham Green due to parked vehicles.

To help ensure collections can take place, we kindly ask all parents, carers, visitors and staff to park considerately and, where possible, avoid parking in this area—particularly on collection days (usually Thursdays).

Your support in helping keep access clear is very much appreciated and helps the smooth running of services in our community.

PTA Update

Make The Rules

Thank you so much to all the children on Make The Rules Day. We hope that they had a great time.

They raised a total of £386.95!!🎉🎉🎉

Any ideas for rules to make for next year? Please ask your children to speak to their School Council rep who will pass it on to PTA.

Colour Dash 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

We hope you enjoyed the Colour Dash. Massive thanks to Lisa Buccheri and volunteers for setting everything up, to Wallingford and Henley Fire Station for attending and making it so memorable and to the Earth Trust for loaning the straw bales.

Thank you to everyone who attended both the Dash and the Thames Run and huge thank you must go to Nicola Shackle for cooking up a bacon storm and managing refreshments.

This event really is a team effort with the Thames Run committee once again delivery an outstanding and increasingly popular event.

We look forward to sharing amounts raised from refreshments and the dash next week.

The Little Recyclers

Thank you to everyone who hauled their bags of clothes to school for PTA. 132kg of clothes meant we were short of the 200 needed for the 45p rate but raised a lovely £33.00 to go into the pot for the outside areas.

Rates have dropped massively so we're pleased to be signed up with the company paying the highest rate around.

We plan to do one collection a term so watch this space for the next one in Q4.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Wonderful School Community

Following the success of the Thames Runt, I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who gave their time, energy and support to make it such a memorable occasion.

Our staff, parents, and children all played an important role in ensuring the day ran smoothly. Whether you helped with setting up and clearing down, cooked and served food, marshalled the course, supplied post-race refreshments, provided sponsorship, or assisted in countless other ways, your contribution was greatly appreciated. Events such as these simply could not happen without the dedication and generosity of our school community.

We were also delighted to see so many parents taking part in the race itself. It was fantastic to see families getting involved, supporting one another and embracing the spirit of the event. Their participation helped create a wonderful atmosphere and reinforced the strong sense of community that makes our school so special.

What made me especially proud was the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from participants and visitors. Many people commented on the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the strong community feel that was evident throughout the event. It was wonderful to hear how much people enjoyed being part of such a friendly and supportive occasion.

Most importantly, numerous visitors took the time to praise our children. Their positive behaviour, enthusiasm, kindness and willingness to help did not go unnoticed. They were excellent ambassadors for our school and set a fantastic example for others throughout the day. Their conduct reflected the values we work so hard to promote and was a source of great pride for everyone involved.

I would also like to give special recognition to the four Year 6 boys who took part in the race; the first time Year 6’s have been allowed to race. Not only did they represent the school brilliantly, but they all achieved outstanding times. Their determination, effort and sporting attitude were truly impressive, and they should be extremely proud of their achievements.

Thank you once again to all who volunteered, supported and participated. Together, we created a truly successful event that showcased the very best of our school community. We are incredibly grateful for everyone's contribution and look forward to building on this success at future events. - Josie

We would greatly appreciate any toy donations, which can be brought into school on Thursday 11th June (please note we do not have space to store items before this date).

Thank you for your support.

Water safety advice.

Spending time near water can be fun, especially in warm weather, but open water can be dangerous even if you are a strong swimmer. Rivers, lakes, canals, quarries and reservoirs can be much colder than they look, with hidden hazards and strong currents.

  • Do not jump, dive or swim in open water unless it is a supervised, designated place.
  • Never go near water alone - stay with friends and make sure someone knows where you are.
  • Be aware that cold water shock can affect anyone, even strong swimmers, and can make it hard to breathe or move.
  • Rivers, canals and lakes may have hidden dangers under the surface such as rocks, rubbish, weeds, fishing line or sudden drops.
  • Do not take risks to impress others, including dares, bridge jumps or entering the water for social media content.
  • If you fall in, try to stay calm, float on your back, keep your airway clear and control your breathing.
  • If you see someone in trouble, call 999 or 112, shout for help, and throw something that floats. Do not go in after them.
  • If possible, choose supervised swimming venues or pools instead of unsupervised open water.

Remember: Enjoy the good weather, look out for your mates, and stay safe around water.

Scratch and Online Safety

As part of our commitment to online safety, we have recently become aware of and reviewed the use of Scratch in school. Scratch remains a valuable tool for teaching coding and is used within supervised computing lessons.

Many children also enjoy using Scratch at home. Parents and carers should be aware that Scratch includes an online community where users can share projects, comments, videos and images. As with any platform containing user-generated content, some material may not always be suitable for younger children.

If your child uses Scratch at home, we recommend adult supervision and encourage families to consider using the offline version, which allows children to create projects without accessing online community features.

Thank you for your support in helping children use technology safely and responsibly.

Headteacher Update -  Friday 22nd May 2026

Love Your School

We are looking for groups of parents who may be able to help with jobs around the school site, such as painting fences, tidying garden areas and planting.

We are very happy to provide all the equipment needed — we simply need volunteers with a little time to spare. As these jobs are outdoors, we can be flexible and arrange access to the playgrounds and grounds at times that work for you.

If you are able to gather a group together and would like to help, please email the school office so that we can discuss suitable dates, times and further information.

Thank you for helping us care for and improve our wonderful school environment for all of our children.

Our School Council Needs Your Help!

Our School Council has come up with a fantastic idea to help raise money for the school — a Second-Hand Toy Sale at the Thames Run on Sunday 7th June.

To make this happen, we need at least two parent volunteers who would be happy to help organise and run the stall on the day.

If you are willing to help, please let the school office know as soon as possible. Unfortunately, without parent support, we will need to postpone the sale until another time.

Thank you for supporting our School Council and the wider school community.

Farewell and Thanks to James

This week we say goodbye to James, who has been a fantastic support in our kitchen. Although his time with us was brief, he made a real impact—bringing a passion for food and lots of fun, especially when dressing up on special days.

We are very grateful for all he has done while covering for Mrs Smith, and we thank MTOAT for enabling him to join us. It has been a very positive example of the benefits of our partnership as we continue to explore working more closely with the trust.

We wish James every success in his new opportunity.

Signs & Symptoms of Meningitis

We have been asked to raise awareness of signs & symptoms of meningitis.

Please see the poster below and visit the NHS website

For urgent medical attention, please call 999 immediately.

If you are concerned about milder symptoms, please contact your GP or NHS 111 online, or call 111 for advice and support.

What a lovely message...

I am, as usual, reading the Friday updates with great joy and admiration. I wanted to write and say that we appreciate the huge amount of effort your whole team (both teaching and non-teaching staff) in making our school such an engaging and vibrant environment. Even a weekly update no doubt adds to your staff time - but it is so very delightful for parents to get a glimpse of what happens in the school. Both routine and extra activities are very much appreciated by many of us - and the quality of education your team provides is truly excellent. As I wasn't born and bred in the UK, I never quite understand the state-funded vs public school difference; but to be honest, I can't think of anything that we want for our child beyond what you have already provided (Absolutely OK not to have sourdough for school dinners!)

Wishing you and your colleagues a happy half term when it comes

Headteacher Update -  Friday 15th May 2026

This Week at CGPS

  • During assembly this week we were talking about the 'golden rule' that all the major world religions follow. Do you know it?
  • Read Joshua's recount of last week's Year 2 Reading Museum trip here.
  • Sporting Bears was kind enough to invite a few of our children to ride in special cars at the Wallingford Car Rally. What a great experience!

There are a lot of notices this week, including some new dates added to the calendar below.

Please see the additional dropdown on this website page with details about Sports Day.

Parking and Road Safety Reminder

We ask all parents and carers to show care and responsibility when parking and driving near the school, particularly at drop‑off and pick‑up times.

We have received concerns from local residents about unsafe and inconsiderate driving, including the use of private driveways, blocked access and poor traffic flow. This causes distress and creates safety risks, especially for children and pedestrians.

As a Church of England school, we seek to live out our values by caring for others and taking responsibility for the impact of our actions on the wider community. Respect for our neighbours and keeping everyone safe are an important part of this.

Please remember:

  • Private driveways and access points must not be used for turning or parking
  • Roads should be kept clear and safe for all users
  • Safe, lawful driving is the responsibility of each individual driver

Head Lice (Nits) Reminder for Families

We have had a small number of reported cases of head lice in school and would appreciate your support in checking your child’s hair regularly.

According to NHS guidance on head lice and nits, head lice are very common in primary-aged children and are spread through close head-to-head contact. They are not linked to poor hygiene.

The NHS advises:

  • Regular checking using a fine-toothed detection comb
  • Wet combing as the first treatment approach
  • Treating anyone with live lice at the same time
  • Children do not need to stay off school if they have head lice

Please check your child’s hair carefully, especially behind the ears and at the back of the neck. Early detection helps reduce the spread within school.

Thank you for your support.

Enter the Wallingford Thames Run – Or Volunteer to Help!

Running season has arrived, and it’s time to book your spot for the hottest race in the South Oxfordshire sporting calendar: the Wallingford Thames Run!

The race starts and ends at Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School, on Sunday June 7. There will be a 5k and a 10k event, both starting at 9am. The Colour Dash, slated to start just after the main races are over, will give budding young athletes of school age a chance to shine – and get covered in (fortunately washable) paint powder! Adults are welcome too!!

Age limits for both races have been lowered this to enable even more runners to take part. Anyone aged 11 or above on race day can enter the 5k. And teens aged 15 or above on the day are eligible to enter the 10k, with trophies up for grabs for the fastest young athletes.

The course is almost entirely flat, making the Thames Run a must-run race for running-curious beginners and seasoned veterans aiming to set a new personal best.

The proceeds of the race are shared between Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School’s PTA, which secures badly needed funding for the school, and the Crowmarsh-based charity Style Acre.

Style Acre’s tireless volunteers helps local people with learning disabilities and autism.

So what are you waiting for? Enter today by visiting the website: https://wallingfordthamesrun.co.uk/

Running isn’t your thing, you say? Well, good news: You can still get involved. The Thames Run committee still needs volunteers to help marshal the race, assist with setting the facilities up, hand out water – and plenty more!

You need no previous experience, and the best snacks and refreshments have already been reserved for those kind enough to help the committee make the race happen! If you’re interested in volunteering, please email thamesruncommittee@gmail.com for more information.

Good oral health is an important part of children’s overall wellbeing. Brushing teeth twice a day, reducing sugary snacks and drinks, and attending regular dental check-ups can all help keep smiles healthy.

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has created a series of short videos for families covering topics such as:

  • How to look after your oral health
  • Supporting children who are reluctant to brush their teeth
  • Helping someone living with dementia brush their teeth
  • Why oral health is important

Headteacher Update -  Friday 8th May 2026

This Week at CGPS

  • This week in assembly, we focused on manners and how they are shown not only in what we say (“please”, “thank you”, “good morning”) but also in our actions and behaviour towards others. The children were challenged to be extra mindful of their manners this week, showing respect, kindness and consideration in everything they do.

  • Year 2 had a fantastic trip to Reading Museum. In the morning, they experienced a Victorian classroom with strict rules, neat handwriting, and a real sense of school life in the past. In the afternoon, they explored the role of servants in a grand house and what their daily routines involved. The children showed great curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm throughout the day—a brilliant hands-on history experience! You can find out more on their class page and look out for the recount they are writing.

PE Date Change

Please note that Mr Bint will not be in school on Friday 22nd May.

However, he will be in on Monday 18th May, so all children should come to school wearing their PE kits on that day.

Vacancies

We currently have the following vacancies:

  • School Business Manager
  • Before and After School Play Workers

Full details of these roles can be found here.

We would be grateful if you could share these opportunities with anyone who may be interested.

Alternatively, paper ballot papers are available from the school office.

Each parent/carer is entitled to one vote.

Voting will close at 2pm on Friday 15th May 2026

Thank you for taking the time to participate in the election process.

Parents and carers are invited to read the candidate statements carefully before casting their vote.

Alice Fletcher-Single, parent of Daisy & Bluebell

I’ve been part of the Crowmarsh community since 2019 and have loved watching my two girls grow at the school. I have always been impressed by the warmth, care and dedication of the staff, and I feel proud to be part of such a supportive school family. As a teacher myself, I understand how important it is for schools to work in partnership with parents, and I’d love the opportunity to contribute my experience and enthusiasm as a parent governor. I’m passionate about helping Crowmarsh continue to be a place where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve their best.

Alex Marshal, parent of Etta & Bertie

As a proud parent of two children Etta Year 4 and Bertie Year 1 I care deeply about the school and its role at the heart of our community. I see every day how the school lives its values and would be honoured to support that mission as a parent governor.

In my role as a police officer, I lead teams in complex situations where safeguarding, trust and fairness are fundamental. These principles guide my approach as a parent. I’m an approachable presence at school events and would bring strategic thinking and genuine care to help every child feel safe, valued and able to thrive.

Kajal Pankhania, parent of Virrae & Remy

As a mum to four boys, with two currently thriving at Crowmarsh, the school has been a huge part of our family life since 2020. I value the strong sense of community and genuine care shown by staff to both children and parents.

Professionally, I work as a People Director, specialising in leadership, people strategy, and organisational growth. I would love to use both my professional experience and personal perspective as a parent to support the school in continuing to provide the best possible environment and learning experience for our children.

I would feel incredibly proud to contribute further as a Parent Governor.

Support Our Playgrounds

On Sunday 7th June, we are looking for volunteers from 8:30am–11:00am to support The Thames Run.

Just 2.5hrs of your time would make a huge difference. Last year we raised £3,000, and we’re hoping to match or exceed this again, with all funds going towards improving our outdoor playgrounds.

This is a major fundraiser for the school and only possible thanks to the support of our local community.

If you, or anyone in the family, can help, with a few hours of your time, please email the school or thamesruncommittee@gmail.com.  We have even drafted in Mr Eaglen!

Wallingford Carnival - help needed

We're in the planning and creative stages but need your support.

Please consider volunteering some of your time to enable us to enter the carnival and give our children an amazing time. Please see below.

Can we retain our Winners title?

Crowmarsh are entering this year's Wallingford Carnival on Saturday 20th June. This year's theme is Wallingford Rocks and do we have some great plans?.... yes we do!

It's such a great day and the children absolutely love parading through town and so our school proud every year.

In order to get everything ready we need the help of both children and parents.

What do we need?

  • Sign your children up on the form below to take part - unlike previous years we have plans for several groups in themed dress (probably nothing they haven't already got) so it will really help knowing who's coming. Assuming the times are the same as last year, we'll meet opposite Lidl at 12.15 to 12.30 and pick up will be 2ish on the Kinecroft. https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/JJbRsFUCj8

  • Join our planning committee. Miss Hill will be leading the artwork and float decorations but we'd love a couple of parents to help out and join our planning committee. It won't take a huge amount of time and will mainly be over email we think. Please contact the office.

  • For decorating the float we need a couple of people with tools (power driver) and muscle to help get everything set up on the truck. This would be Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning. We also then need help getting everything off the truck on the Sunday. Without this help we will not be able to go ahead with the truck.....please let the office know asap if you can help.

We look forward to sharing our plans soon.

Egg Boxes

Please could you keep any empty egg boxes and bring them into the school office when you have them spare. We use them for packaging and selling our school eggs, so donations are always very helpful.

Friday Assembly

Did you know that every Friday we hold a celebration assembly?

Children are invited to bring in any awards, certificates, or achievements from outside school to share with everyone. We love seeing swimming certificates, gymnastics awards, sports trophies, and even newspaper articles, anything and everything celebrating their successes.

We just ask that items are recent and relevant (from within the past month).

Pre-School – September 2026

We have September 2026 places available.

Options include:

  • 5 full days
  • 5 mornings
  • 5 afternoons
  • Or consecutive days (for example, Monday, Tuesday (all day) and Wednesday morning

We continue to offer both 15-hour and 30-hour funded places

Morning Session: 8:45am -11:45am

If you missed out and want to get a book... if you visit Wallingford bookshop in the next 2 weeks and mention Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School then anything you purchase will be added to the current school total. For every book purchased we get a percentage back to purchase books for the School.

Supporting local business and supporting our children. Happy reading

Headteacher Update -  Friday 1st May 2026

This Week at CGPS

  • We were delighted to welcome Rev Simon to our assembly this week. He shared an important message with the children: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” This gave us all a valuable opportunity to reflect on how we communicate and treat one another.

  • Congratulations to our Tag Rugby team. They achieved a fantastic win on Thursday at the Year 3 and 4 local school's tournament, winning all their games! We are very proud of them, and we extend a special thank you to our Year 6 pupils for their support and encouragement.

  • We also enjoyed a brilliant street dance experience, kindly funded by the PTA and delivered by Urban Strides. The children had a wonderful time and even picked up some impressive new moves!

Parent Governor Vacancies – Reminder

We currently have two vacancies for Parent Governors on the Governing Board at Crowmarsh Gifford C of E Primary School, and we warmly welcome nominations from parents and carers.

Parent Governors play a vital role in supporting the strategic direction of the school, working alongside the Headteacher to help ensure the very best outcomes for all children.

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience or interest in safeguarding, HR, finance or resources, although enthusiasm, commitment, and a desire to support the school remain the most important qualities. Full training and support are provided.

📅 Closing date for nominations: Wednesday 6th May 2026 (9am)
📍 Nomination forms must be returned to the school office by this deadline. Self-nominations are welcome.

We encourage you to consider this rewarding opportunity to support the continued success of our school.

National Thank a Teacher Day – 17th June

National Thank a Teacher Day is on 17th June and we would love to invite parents and carers to take part.

It’s a simple way to say thank you to any member of staff who has made a difference to your child this year. A short message of appreciation can mean a great deal and really lifts those working in our school.

You can send a free thank-you card here: https://thankateacher.co.uk/thank-a-teacher/thank-a-teacher-form/

Thank you for your continued support of our staff and school community.

ELSA and Counsellor

We had originally shared that Jackie would be returning in May, however she will now not be back with us until June.

We have a Safety & Support tab on our website, which is full of useful information to help support children’s wellbeing and, as ever, our dedicated staff team are here to support all our children. Please do reach out if you need anything.

Volunteers needed for the Thames Run!

7TH June 2026 Lots of different roles to fill!

Marshalling is a great way to spend a Sunday morning (approx. 0830-1100) – watching other people exercise, while you cheer them on from your (hopefully) warm and dry spot on the picturesque Thames Run course. Or there are roles based at the school including handing out water, medals, number bibs and putting out signs!

You do not need any qualifications or experience to volunteer– just a cheery disposition! With plenty of support and instruction from our team, you will also be instrumental in helping us hold this important event: The Thames Run raised over £3,000 for the PTA last year. With your help, we will raise even more this year!

Annual Parish Meeting

Crowmarsh Parish Council will be hosting the Annual Parish Meeting on Thursday 21st May, at Crowmarsh Pavilion, starting at 7.00pm.  All residents and parents are warmly invited to attend.  This is an open meeting  and we will also be inviting our District Councillors, Sue Cooper and Andrea Powell and our County Councillor, Gavin McClauchlan.

The address of the pavilion is The Recreation Ground, Bellamy Way, Crowmarsh Gifford OX10 8FN and access is via Stephens Field, opposite Bridge Villa Caravan Park. There is plenty of parking available."

PTA Update

Quiiizzzzzzz - what a great night!

Thank you to everyone who came to the quiz night. What a brilliant night!

Amazing food was had followed by a very spirited evening with much debate over lane discipline at roundabouts, confusion over heads or tails rules and brain aches over dingbats. A varied quiz covering local knowledge to being back at school, guess to faces to the 1% club.

A massive thank you to Alice Fletcher-Single, quiz mistress extraordinary, who not only wrote the quiz but hosted the evening excellently. Huge fun!

CGPS staff won by 1 point and, according to Mr Smith, apparently weren't even trying........they win the winner's trophy!

An amazing £480.00 was raised through ticket sales and on the night.

Special shout out to cook James, Mrs Evans, Nicola Shackell, Jane Fryatt and Lisa Buccheri who helped make the evening run so smoothly.

Thanks also to all attendees for helping tidy up. What a team!

Dance the day away with Urban Strides!

PTA are delighted and excited to be funding a great day for the children on Monday.

Urban Strides are a street dance troop who annually perform at Young Voices concerts all over the country. If your children have been in Young Voices they will have been raving about them!

Monday is a day for dance as they spend a session with each class to help them get their groove on and strut their funky stuff (the lack of street talk reveals the age of the writer 😉😂).

Thank you to school for the idea and getting everything booked in and we hope the children have a great day!

 🌈Colour Dash, 7th June, 11.00🌈

More colour, more fun and arguably wetter .....

Tickets now on sale on PTA Events for this years Colour Dash, taking place after the Thames Run....

Such a brilliant and fun event

Headteacher Update -  Friday 17th April 2026

This Week at CGPS

  • It's been great to welcome everyone back to school and start new topics. You can now find our curriculum grids for this term on our Class Pages.
  • Homework grids are also now available on our Class Pages. We look forward to seeing the homework you bring in.
  • Year 6 benefited from an Injury Minimization Workshop from IMPS during which they learnt emergency life-saving skills.  https://www.impsweb.co.uk/
  • Three photos from our spring photography have been chosen to be displayed in our staffroom.

Reminders

To help our school continue to run safely and smoothly, we would like to remind all parents and anyone involved in drop-off or collection of the following:

  • Mobile phones should not be used in the playground. We encourage you to be fully present and to model this for the children.
  • The climbing frame and field are not available for use at collection time, as our after-school provision needs to access these areas promptly.
  • Being on time for collection supports our staff, whose priority is to remain with the children.
  • Please park and drive considerately along Old Reading Road, as there are many children and families in the area.

We all want the very best for the children and these considerations help.

Amazon Wishlist

https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2LH3TUU3K50TX?ref_=wl_share

An Amazon Wish List has been created to help provide those “little extras” that make such a difference to the children’s learning and experiences. With school budgets tighter than ever, this is a wonderful way for anyone who wishes to contribute to do so in a simple and direct way.

EYFS Allotment

Tucked away in our EYFS garden, our allotment area may be looking a little dull at the moment, but hopefully not for much longer. The children have been very busy preparing the planters and carefully sowing a variety of seeds. Before long, we hope to see carrots, potatoes, beans, lettuce, strawberries, cucumbers and tomatoes bringing the area to life. Alongside this, we have created a natural, untouched space to observe what grows on its own. This will support minibeasts and help the children develop their plant identification skills. Keep an eye on this area to see what else might begin to grow!

PTA Update

Amazing news!

Crowmarsh PTA came second in the Wallingford Waitrose Green Tokens Scheme. A fantastic donation of £1,000 coming our way to go towards enhancing the outdoor areas for our children.

We had some stiff and very worthy competition so thank you to all of you who put in the handfuls of tokens over the last 3 months.

Thanks also to the fantastic team at Waitrose for selecting us to benefit from the scheme. 💚💚💚

Headteacher Update -  Friday 27th March 2026

This Week at CGPS

  • We were delighted to welcome author and illustrator Steve Antony, who visited the school to share his wonderful books with the children. Many of the children recognised his popular titles, including Please Mr Panda, Thank You Mr Panda and I’ll Wait, Mr Panda. H
  • At church, it was lovely to see so many creative Easter hats on display and our Spring Photos. The service was a special occasion, and we are grateful to the church for welcoming us all.

Amazon Wish List

https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2LH3TUU3K50TX?ref_=wl_share

We are excited to share a new initiative being kindly led by one of our parents to support our school community.

An Amazon Wish List has been created to help provide those “little extras” that make such a difference to the children’s learning and experiences. With school budgets tighter than ever, this is a wonderful way for anyone who wishes to contribute to do so in a simple and direct way.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a generous and supportive parent community, and we are very grateful for any contributions—big or small. Every item donated will go straight towards enriching opportunities for the children.

Thank you, as always, for your continued kindness and support.

ELSA and Counsellor Update

We want to let families know that Jackie, our brilliant ELSA and Counsellor, will be on planned leave after Easter, but she will be back with us soon!

It is a good opportunity  to remind parents of the Safety & Support tab on our website which is full of useful information to help support children's well being.

As ever, our dedicated staff team are here to support all our children, please reach out if you need anything.

Easter Holiday Project: Helping Our Community Stay Safe

This Easter holiday, we would love all children to take part in a special project that could make a real difference in our community.

We are working alongside the Parish Council to help tackle speeding in our local area. Research shows that road safety signs designed by children are particularly powerful—they capture drivers’ attention in a memorable and meaningful way and encourage them to slow down.

Your challenge: Design a bright, eye-catching road safety sign that encourages drivers to slow down.

Things to think about:

  • Clear messages such as “Slow Down”, “30 Means 30” or “Please Drive Carefully”
  • Bold colours and simple designs that can be seen from a distance
  • Pictures or symbols that quickly get your message across
  • A positive and easy-to-understand message

Why this matters:
This is a wonderful opportunity for children to contribute to the safety of our village. A selection of designs may be chosen by the Parish Council to be professionally printed and displayed around the community.

How to take part:

  • Create your design on A4 or A3 paper
  • Use pens, pencils or paints
  • Bring your finished design back to school after the Easter break

We hope many children will feel inspired to take part. By working together, we can help keep our community safe while living out our values of Care, Grow, Persevere and Shine.

We can’t wait to see your fantastic creations!

Thames Run

Entries Open for the Wallingford Thames Run; Volunteers Urgently Required

Calling all runners! Registration is now open for the Wallingford Thames Run – a much-loved fixture of the summer sporting calendar.

This year’s race takes place at 9am on Sunday June 7, starting and ending at Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School. Runners can opt to enter the 5k or the 10k event, with a delightfully messy Colour Dash race for budding young athletes of school age following the main races.

There’s good news for junior racers, too: As of this year, anyone aged 11 or above on race day can enter the 5k, with those aged 15 and above eligible for the 10k.

Boasting an almost entirely flat course and (fingers crossed) optimal running conditions, this is an unmissable event for beginners – or veterans chasing a personal best time!

All proceeds go to the Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School’s PTA, which helps the school with much-needed funding, and the Crowmarsh-based charity Style Acre – which helps local people with learning disabilities and autism.

Please visit https://wallingfordthamesrun.co.uk/ to enter today!

If running isn’t your thing, the committee urgently needs volunteers who can help marshal the race, help set everything up, hand out water and medals… and much, much more!

No previous experience is required – and the committee has promised to provide plenty of snacks and refreshments to everyone who kindly gives up their Sunday morning to help raise money for the school and Style Acre. Please register your interest by sending an email to thamesruncommittee@gmail.com.

Can you help support the Thames Run?

We’re looking for local parents and residents to help spread the word about this fantastic community event on 7th June!

Thanks to the generous support of In-House Estate Agents, we have advertising boards ready to be placed outside homes across Wallingford and the surrounding villages.

Displaying a board is a simple but powerful way to raise awareness and boost participation.

If you’re happy to have a board outside your home, we’d love to hear from you!

 Email: thamesruncommittee@gmail.com

  WhatsApp Josie: 07812 586988

Thank you for making the Thames Run such a success.

Useful Educational Psychologist Advice on Fidget 'tools'

  • Being able to listen and do is a key step in the development of attention, and until age 5-6 it is difficult for children to both at once.   Some older children can't do this.  However, if objects that children are fiddling with are require concentration in order to operate them, they may well not be listening/looking at the task at hand.   If you need to stop thinking about the listening/looking to operate your fidget, then it's very likely not the right one to have picked.
  • I always suggest teaching kids the difference between tools and toys. Tools have a purpose and a job to do, we don't play with them, we work with them.  Toys are for fun.  Thus we need them to be using fidget tools, not fidget toys.
  •  We discussed this with two groups, and in one group all ended up with rubber fidget rings.

Cronka Bar Own Clothes Days

Some children have earned Own Clothes Days for their class through the Cronka Bars. These will take place on:

  • Wednesday 25 March – Year 4
  • Thursday 26 March – Year 1
  • Friday 27th March – Year 2

Check Out Our Spring Photos on Instagram

Spring is in the air, and our school community has already started capturing it! Head over to our Instagram page to see the wonderful spring moments shared so far, and then join in by entering our Spring Photo Competition.

How to enter:
• Snap a photo that shows the magic of spring – flowers, wildlife, skies, outdoor fun, or a special moment
• Email your photo to the school office
• Include your child’s name and class

Deadline: Monday 23rd March

Selected photos will be featured on Instagram and displayed in our local church. Get outside, explore, and start snapping – we can’t wait to see spring through your eyes!

Easter Bonnet/Hat/Cap Celebration

Children are warmly invited to make an Easter bonnet/hat/cap at home and bring it to school to wear during our Easter Service on Friday 27th March. We always love seeing the children’s creative designs filled with the colours and joy of spring.

Bonnet ideas might include flowers, chicks, eggs, ribbons or other signs of new life and springtime.

Unfortunately, there is not enough space for parents to attend the service at church, but we will make sure to share photographs. We look forward to celebrating together and seeing the children’s fantastic creations!
