PHSE & Relationships Education

At CGPS, we changed to the Jigsaw scheme of work in April 2024. This was to ensure that all of our children receive thorough and age appropriate PSHE lessons that are up to date with guidance from the DfE. If any parent of the school has feedback on Jigsaw, please email your comments to the office.

This page contains information on statutory RSE, our school approach to teaching PSHE and useful documents published by Jigsaw.

Relationships Education

‘The Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (England) Regulations 2019, made under sections 34 and 35 of the Children and Social Work Act 2017, make Relationships Education compulsory for all pupils receiving primary education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) compulsory for all pupils receiving secondary education’ Department of education.'

CGPS is a Church of England Primary School therefore we deliver a curriculum in line with our ethos & the national guidance:

  1. Relationships Education - Compulsory: through PHSE curriculum using Jigsaw scheme of work
  2. Science - Compulsory: as per the National Curriculum (see science curriculum page)
  3. Optional sex education Year 5/6: details are shared with parents prior to this optional session. Sex education is NOT taught in other years.

Along with our own Sex and Relationships Policy, we also follow the DfE Relationship and Health Education statutory document. As a Church school, we are also supported by the advice given in the Church of England's publication 'Valuing All God's Children.'
